Privacy Policy

Diskan (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a music-sharing app that shows what you are listening to on Spotify to people nearby and lets you chat with them. This policy explains what personal data the app collects, why, and your choices. The app is operated by Gauthier Lamarque. Data we collect
- Account — your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time code (passwordless). Managed by our backend provider, Supabase.
- Profile — the display name, handle, and preferences (including your chosen location precision and theme) you set during onboarding.
- Spotify listening data — when you link your Spotify account, the app reads your currently playing track and your top artiststo power the “Now” screen and your recap. Linking Spotify is optional and can be disconnected at any time. Diskan is not endorsed by or affiliated with Spotify.
- Approximate location — while you are broadcasting, the app uses your device location to find people nearby. Your location is fuzzed on your device — snapped to a coarse grid according to your precision setting — before it is sent. Your exact GPS position never leaves your device.
- Presence — while broadcasting, your current track and your fuzzed location are shared with other Diskan users near you so they can discover and message you. This stops when you pause playback, turn off sharing, or sign out.
- Messages — the chat messages (and any track you share in a chat) that you send to other users, stored so conversations sync across sessions.
- Subscription status — whether you have an active Diskan Premium subscription. Purchases are processed by Google Play and our payments partner RevenueCat; we do not receive or store your payment card details.
How we use your data
- To sign you in and maintain your account and profile.
- To show what you’re playing and find and display Diskan users near you.
- To deliver chat messages between you and other users.
- To grant access to Premium features to subscribers.
- To operate, secure, and troubleshoot the app.
We do not sell your personal data or use it for advertising.
Sharing with other users
By design, while you are broadcasting, other nearby users can see your profile (display name / handle), your currently playing track, and your approximate (fuzzed) area — and can message you. What you send in chat is visible to the recipient. You control this by toggling sharing off or signing out.
Service providers
We share data with providers only to run the app:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and realtime messaging (our backend).
- Spotify— to read your listening data, under Spotify’s own terms and privacy policy.
- Google Play & RevenueCat — to process subscriptions and tell the app whether your subscription is active.
Data retention
Account, profile, and message data are kept while your account exists. Presence data is transient and is cleared when you stop broadcasting or after a short period of inactivity. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time using the contact email above.
Your rights
You can access, correct, or delete your personal data, and withdraw consent (e.g. by disconnecting Spotify or turning off location sharing). To exercise these rights, contact us at the email above. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR.
Children
Diskan is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
